Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.

An important political figure said the vandalism made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
