Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks his first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of the previous year.
Success also indicates the Russian has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.
The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.
But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.
Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
